about

***All the proceeds from the sale of Curve will be donated to the Durham Artist's Relief Fund, which supports artists and arts presenters in Durham, North Carolina, who have been financially impacted by cancellations due to COVID-19, and GSO MutualAid, which supports people in need in Greensboro, North Carolina.***

The members of the Out and Gone Music family, like most musicians, are a social bunch. We play in each other's groups, we go to each other's shows, we hang out. Some of us even work at the same office. And like all other musicians who are trying to deal with the effects of Covid-19 on ourselves, our families, and our communities, our options for making music are limited to what we can do at home or online. It is in this context and spirit that we are pleased to present this solo compilation album Curve. Each of Curve's twelve tracks was composed, recorded, and produced this spring and summer as we each sheltered in place from the coronavirus. From bassist Vattel Cherry's haunting "East of the Mississippi" to the intimate feel of Jason Bivins's and James Gilmore's guitar pieces, to David Menestres's balloon work, to more produced tracks from Laurent Estoppey and Shawn Galvin, the selections on Curve explore the range of what solo might sound like. And Jil Christensen captures the frustration many of us feel about those who don't take Covid-19 seriously.

In a way, Curve is a snapshot of the range of approaches and viewpoints at work in our corner of central North Carolina's improvisation/experimental music scene. The album is also a window into where each of our musical and creative selves are at in this moment. We hope this music resonates with you on some level, and that it finds you healthy and safe in these trying times.
